According to “Izvestia” daily, Russian coach Valery Karpin may assume the position of head coach of the Armenian national football team. According to the daily, his candidacy is supported by member of the board of directors of “Spartak” club Jean Cheloyants, who follows the performances of the Armenian national team and communicates with the president of the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA) Ruben Hayrapetyan.
“Izvestia” reports that 46-year-old Carpin does not intend to lead the Armenian football team for a long time, as he wants to continue his club work after the qualifying round of the European Football Championship to be held in France next year.
The newspaper notes that Carpin has a good experience of cooperation with two key athletes of the Armenian national team, Yura Movsisyan and Araz Ozbilis. Both play for Spartak Moscow, which Karpin coached in 2009-2012.
“Izvestia” reports that in addition to Carpin, former coach Vardan Minasyan can apply for the post of coach of the Armenian national football team, in connection with which the best games of the team in the past few years are connected, as well as “Pyunik” Sargis Hovsepyan, former captain, former full-back, who is today the coach of “Pyunik” և youth team.
According to “Izvestia”, the Football Federation of Armenia neither confirmed nor denied the information about Valeri Carpin. The newspaper reminds that the Swiss specialist Bernard Challandes resigned when the Armenian national team lost 1-2 to the Albanian national team in the qualifying round of Euro-2016, currently occupying the last place in Group I with only 1 point.
The team will play four more matches in the qualifying round of the European Championship this year, and only one of them will be in the opponent’s field.
On June 13, the Armenian national team will compete in Yerevan with the Portuguese national team led by the best football player in the world, Cristiano Ronaldo, on September 4, it will play in Serbia, on September 7, in Yerevan, it will host the Danish national team, and on October 11, Albania. Before that, the France-Armenia friendly match will take place on October 8.
