Facebook post of the press secretary of “Surb Astvatsamayr” medical center Gorg Derdzyan.
On June 4, 2021, after an accident, an 8-year-old girl was taken to Surb Astvatsamayr Medical Center in critical condition with open craniocerebral injury, severe brain hemorrhage, contusion hemorrhagic foci, fractures of the right humerus, and other pulmonary injuries.
The craniocerebral injury was treated surgically, the child was discharged about 40 days later with a large skull defect.
After the improvement of the general condition of the child, about 8 months after the trauma, in order to close the skull defect, for the first time in Armenia, a titanium construction with the possibility of increasing the size was used.
The titanium construction is made individually based on the size of the defect obtained by the preoperative CT examination, the expected contours of the skull.
The structure is multi-component, has the possibility of centrifugal movement according to the directions of further growth of the baby skull.
Thus, the construction will protect the brain from external injuries, will restore the normal contours of the skull, on the other hand, will not prevent further growth of the skull at the site of the defect.
The titanium design was made by Digital Diagnostic Center. It was provided as a donation for the child.
