In 2020, the wheat, barley, flour, cereals and coconut oil imported by Armenia were almost completely imported from Russia. 2/3 to 3/4 of corn, pasta, sugar, margarine, chocolate were also imported from Russia.
Almost half of the confectionery is imported from Ukraine, about 1/3 of the poultry, sugar and about 15% of the beef.
Gagik Makaryan, chairman of the Republican Union of Employers, claimed during Aravot’s “Confrontation” program that alternatives are already being sought so that there is no shortage of these food products. “I already know suppliers who have replaced Ukrainian poultry with Russian poultry. And I even know the prices at what prices they can bring. The prices are such that the current prices of the stores will not change, they will remain the same.
In terms of oil, we work with Iran and have very good relations with various producers. “Now I receive offers and prices for the various products mentioned, and we make calculations so that we can help our businesses so that the Islamic Republic of Iran can be an alternative.”
