Because the most anticipated games of 2022 are obvious that came quite naturally, this list is dedicated to 2022 games everyone has heard of but don’t necessarily inspire confidence and or small games no one has heard of that have the potential to become indispensable.
10. The Day Before
The Day Before makes the ambitious proposal of a survival game in a post-apocalyptic world, halfway between The Last of Us and The Division. Suffice to say that if it’s up to it, we’ll spend long hours in multiplayer on it.
9. Weird West
Behind Weird West, we find the creators of Dishonored and Prey having left Arkane. It is above all the super original universe in the Wild West mixed with the occult and the fantastic that attracts us and it could well be an unexpected nugget on the side of independent games.
8. Salt and Sacrifice
After Salt and Sanctuary, Ska Studios will return in 2022 for its sequel. It will be still so hard to die and given the small success that the first opus had, we can expect this one to hit even harder. One 2D souls like absolutely lovely.
7. Triangle Strategy
After Octopath Traveler which brought the turn-based J-RPG up to date with a magnificent 2D/3D artistic direction, it’s the turn of the strategy game to be entitled to the same treatment. We don’t yet know its official name, and the genre is too niche for it to be successful with the general public, but it shouldn’t be underestimated.
6.Sea of Stars
Easily one of the most anticipated indie games of the year. A turn-based RPG created by the studio behind the excellent The Messenger which promises to be visually very beautiful and which in addition will be entitled to a music by the composer of Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. An indie game to watch at all costs.
This “Smash Bros-like” with all the characters belonging to Warner Bros maybe a great idea or a monumental mess and it is hard to imagine one in between. From what we’ve seen of the game, there are still some good ideas behind it, such as playing as a duo and there’s real potential, especially since MultiVersus will be free to play. To see if it will take well once the final release.
Sifu is a true tribute to martial arts films in which we can follow the life of a kung fu master. With his challenging gameplay and complex hand-to-hand combat, he has already shown himself in several presentations, but his official release could well make even more noise. And a plus is Sloclap is a French studio so all the more reason to bet on it.
The game where we embody a cat who explores a city in search of his lost family. As soon as it was announced, Stray captivated everyone, but it has since disappeared, despite a release date scheduled for early 2022. Suffice to say that from the moment we have a precise date, the hype will skyrocket.
2. Suicide Squad Kills the Justice League
Despite James Gunn’s super movie, DC Comics’ Suicide Squad doesn’t yet have a super good reputation with the general public. The same way as Guardians of the Galaxy was a great surprise in 2021we expect that Rocksteady gives us an absolutely insane game, way beyond polite expectation which the game currently enjoys.
As with MultiVersus, Square Enix’s game could also be a great success or a big failure and it’s hard to imagine one in between. Forspoken is rather pretty and its gameplay based on the combination of three spells which suggests a lot of possibilities is interesting. But will that be enough to make the game a success? If the Luminous Productions studio manages to offer something that holds up and is out of the ordinary, it could well be the big surprise of 2022.
