In the framework of Pink October, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection has opened the mammography band across the country, with the aim of increasing awareness and more access for women to the early diagnosis of breast cancer.

“Within our program for the early diagnosis of breast cancer, but above all in a month which has already become a tradition, pink October, which is considered the month of awareness and the fight against breast cancer, we want to raise awareness all women over the age of 40 to perform periodic breast control, to perform mammography screening. One in 8 women is diagnosed with breast cancer, therefore it is very important that not only during October, but throughout the year, women are sensitized, take some of their time to perform periodic breast check-ups. For the month of October, we have decided to have an extension of the working hours of the mammography examination. It will be from 8 am to 6 pm, open all mammography cabinets, as well as on Saturday until 2 pm. Throughout these years, we have equipped regional hospitals with this much-needed service that serves the early detection of breast cancer. On the other hand, the two mobile mammograms are in function of increasing access for women in rural areas”, said Manastirliu.
Speaking about the follow-up and treatment of women suffering from breast cancer, Manastirliu said:
“The follow-up and further examinations are carried out in our structures in the Polyclinics in Tirana, in the university hospitals, in the regional hospitals. We have ensured for all these years, ongoing investments in imaging capacities, for the strengthening of laboratory capacities. But above all, we have closed the treatment in terms of expensive medications, such as herceptin for the treatment, for the cure of breast cancer”.
