On July 7, 2022 “O Mirante” published the news “Câmara da Chamusca and Civil Protection despise the safety of citizens”, referring that a young couple with two minor children cannot use the backyard of their house in the center of Chamusca because Civil Protection does not act in the case of a house that collapsed, adjacent to yours, in December of last year. He also stated that Paulo Queimado, as mayor and president of Civil Protection, did not deign to visit the site and take care of the damage caused.
It is up to me to clarify that: • It is completely false that as Mayor I did not visit the site of the house that collapsed and take care of the damage caused. Yes, I visited the place, to find out about the situation and I would never fail to do so in the face of such a delicate situation, which puts the life and physical integrity of the aforementioned couple at risk, as well as the safety of the citizens who pass by. • It is true that the deadline for demolition by the owner, after all administrative procedures have been carried out, has already passed, the owner having been notified again and the technical team of the municipal works department returned to the site to reassess the situation. • There are rare exceptions in which the Municipality or Civil Protection can replace the owner and this is clearly not one of them, so the content of the news is not true. As it is a private property, none of these entities can act independently. However, the Municipality will take all possible steps, within its powers to help find a solution to everyone’s satisfaction, and never any decision or solution agreement can be made in the absence of the owners, who are responsible for an understanding between themselves. .
The Mayor, Paulo Jorge Mira Lucas Cegonho Queimado
