KOCHI ∙ Coir and coir products exports from the country in 2021-22 financial year at a record high. 12.35 lakh metric tonnes of coir and coir products worth Rs.4340.05 crore were shipped. The export was Rs 3778.98 crore in the previous year. Chairman of Coir Board D. Kupuramu said.
Exports increased by 6.2% while revenue grew by 14.8% during this period. While the export of coir, coir fiber, coir mats, chavti, chuti etc. increased, there was a decrease in the export of coir ground cloth and coir products made with rubber.
52.05% of the total exports are gravel. 2259.18 crore worth of chakirichor was shipped. Coir mats are second – 23.06% (1001.15 crores). Chakirinars third – 14.66% (636.56 crores). Value added coir products account for 33% of total exports. Thoothukudi port accounted for the largest shipment of coir products (46%).
103 countries imported coir and coir products from India during this period. The US leads the way (29.79%). China is second (20%). Coir products are also exported to Netherlands, South Korea, UK, Spain, Australia, Italy, Germany and Canada.
