At a press conference held this Wednesday in the city of Punto Fijo, savers from the Western Discount Bank (BOD) with its subsidiaries BOI BANK and Orinoco Bank, ratified their decision to go to all possible instances, until justice is done.
Acting as a spokesman for those affected, Esteban Medina explained that despite the efforts made before the representatives of the BOD, the results have been unsuccessful; qualifying this fact as a mockery against those who for years, worked and achieved their savings “with the sweat of their brow.”
There are savers who died after suffering terminal pathologies, due to the impossibility of covering the expenses caused by the indicated treatments, according to medical prescription. This is the case of kidney patients, with cancer and cardiovascular conditions; which constitutes a flagrant violation of human rights because it is about life, the spokesman stated.
“In the face of this very serious and reprehensible fact, we reiterate the call to the citizen President of the Republic, Nicolas Maduro; to the President of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, as well as to the Attorney General of the Republic, so that they proceed in accordance with their constitutional powers, and justice is done”, he reiterated.
“We are victims of an alleged fraud, judging by the irregularities and maneuvers of BOD executives and their international associates, until our savings are delivered to us, the product of years of efforts, and with a view to guaranteeing our social security; and even the future of our families”, added the deponent.
OPERATING MODE
Explaining the modus operandi, he said that representatives of the BOD, proposed as a strategy to attract customers, the opening of accounts in dollars with the aim of protecting our savings in bolivars, against a possible devaluation and depreciation of the national currency. “They offered us dollars and backed by the dollars, they would lend us bolivars.”
Once this objective was achieved, and after the first year, they activated a fixed-term participation; then after said term expired, we requested that they return our savings to the accounts in dollars; but this request was denied by the bank’s executives. From that date, until today, we have gone to the BOD to return our savings, getting us the following answers: “The bank is now not a commercial bank, but an investment bank and that our savings were in foreign investments.”
Another of the vain arguments was that; “The Covid 19 pandemic had started, and; therefore, they could not manage the delivery of our money”. Another of the excuses was that “an economic blockade fell on the country”, and, therefore, no financial transaction could be made. But, additionally, the spokesman added, that another of the futile explanations was that “the bank had been intervened”; consequently, they could not deliver the money.
Esteban Medina expressed that this detestable fact will be exposed before the President of the Republic, the President of the National Assembly and the Public Prosecutor of the Republic, in order to put “the hand on the heart”, so that justice prevail and establish the administrative and criminal responsibilities of the case. “We need our money,” the spokesman reiterated at the end of his statement.
