The opposition grouped in the Unitary Platform confirmed -through a statement- the resumption of the dialogue process with the regime of Nicolás Madurowhich was suspended in October last year.
Said statement does not specify the date of the restart, which Norway -a mediating country- set for Saturday, November 26.
The dialogue, which had been taking place since August 2021 in Mexico, was put on hold three months later by decision of Chavismo, in protest of the extradition of Colombian businessman Álex Saab -alleged front man for President Maduro- to the United States, where he faces legal proceedings for money laundering.
The anti-Chavista group assured that it attends the dialogue “with the urgency and the will to find, once and for all, tangible and real agreements that translate into solutions for the humanitarian crisis (…) and, especially, the construction of conditions and institutions that guarantee, among other things, free elections and observable.
«We appreciate the interest and support that different governments of friendly countries have maintained to make this restart possible. We count on that support from the international community to continue and intensify throughout the process.” Added platform.
via Twitter, The Government of Norway, through its Embassy in Mexico, indicated that the restart of the negotiations is scheduled for this Saturday, November 26 in Mexican territorywhere “The parties will sign a partial agreement on social matters«.
On November 11, the head of the official delegation, Jorge Rodríguez, and the head of the opposition delegation, Gerardo Blyde, held a meeting in Paris, which included the participation of the presidents of France, Emmanuel Macron, of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, and from Argentina, Alberto Fernández, in addition to the Norwegian Foreign Minister, Anniken Huitfeldt.
The meeting, promoted by France, Colombia and Argentina within the Paris Forum for Peace, sought to open the door for the Venezuelan government and the opposition led by Juan Guaidó to resume negotiations to hold presidential elections in 2024.
