Usain Bolt showed on Thursday night, at the Olympic stadium in Rome, that he is human.
For the fifth stage of the Diamond League circuit, he lost by a hundredth of a second to Justin Gatlin. The Jamaican’s mark was 9.95, compared to 9.94 for the American. The French Jimmy Vicaut finished in third position (10.02s).
Bolt is preparing for the World Athletics Championships in Moscow, to be held between August 10 and 18. As well as Gatlin, 31 years old and Olympic champion in Athens 2004 (who was suspended from 2006 to 2010 for doping).
Once the race was over, the London 2012 gold medalist said at a press conference: “It wasn’t me. I had a good start, but after five strides my legs felt less. I have to work harder.”
