No one, better than Muse, embodies the sound of the third millennium, between decadent rock, flashes of electronics and symphonic suggestions. A well-known music critic called the sound of the Teignmouth trio, formed by Matt Bellamy, Dominic Howard and Chris Wolstenholmen, “a genetically modified hybrid of Queen, Jeff Buckley and Radiohead”. An immediately recognizable sound and poetics, with waves of cosmic pessimism made less painful by fast-moving melodies, energetic guitar riffs that seem to come straight from space, epic and grandiloquent atmospheres from Hollywood blockbusters. The Muses, after the dystopian gloom of Dronesthey moved away from the alt rock of the origins to embrace, in Simulation Theory, a grandiloquent and ambitious pop, in which electronics play an emphatic role, while the guitar is heard mainly in the textures. There is great anticipation for the new Muse album, Will of the people, which will be released on August 26 all over the world, although the most avid fans of the group led by Matt Bellamy will be able to buy the LP or CD the previous evening, August 25, in 50 selected music stores throughout Italy, with a special gadget as an exclusive gift. Matt Bellamy, speaking of the new album (consisting of 10 songs), said: “Will Of The People was born between Los Angeles and London and is influenced by the growing uncertainty and instability in the world. The pandemic, new wars in Europe, massive protests and uprisings, an attempted insurrection, destabilization of Western democracy, growing authoritarianism, fires and natural disasters and the destabilization of the global order have influenced Will Of The People. It has been a time of concern and scary for all of us as the Western empire and the natural world, which have rocked us for so long, are truly under threat. This album is a personal journey through those fears and preparation for what comes next. ”The title track of the album Will Of The People is a dystopian and playfully provocative glam-rock, while we find an innocence and purity in the nostalgic electronic textures of Verona. From the viscerality of Won’t Stand Down to the heavy industrial riffs of Kill Or Be Killedpassing through the speed of Euphoriathe album ends with an adrenaline rush and brutally honest We are Fucking Fucked. Will Of the people it was produced directly by Muse, to have total control of the entire creative process. But the news does not end here. The Teignmouth trio, always at the forefront in the use of new technologies, will be the first band to release an album in NFT format, suitable for the official album charts. NFTs (acronym for non-fungible token) are certificates that attest to the authenticity, uniqueness and ownership of a digital object, such as, for example, an image, a video or a song. Non-fungible tokens are registered in a blockchain and cannot be exchanged or copied. NFT’s offering of Will Of The People, limited to just 1000 copies, will be sold by cryptocurrency firm Serenade. Buyers will receive a download of the record, featuring a unique high-resolution FLAC cover. The NFT will also be digitally signed by Muse and each buyer’s name will be on a permanent list. While most other NFTs require the buyer to already own a digital wallet, Will of the people won’t require it, as Serenade will create and issue a digital wallet after purchase. We can bet that soon other big names, after Muse, will face the “new world” of NFT, a market with infinite potential. We, as old music lovers, hope, however, that the cryptocurrency business does not prevail over the quality of records, and that melody, harmony, rhythm and lyrics still remain the polar stars of an artist.
