The United Nations (UN) convoy hit a mine in Mali.
Olivier Salgado, Spokesperson of the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), said in a statement on his social media account that the logistics convoy of MINUSMA hit a mine on the road between Tessalit village and Gao city, and that 2 soldiers from the UN Peacekeeping Force lost their lives. He stated that one of them was seriously injured.
It was announced that the soldiers who lost their lives were Egyptian nationals.
Explaining that the soldiers who lost their lives were Egyptian nationals, Salgado stated that emergency response teams were dispatched to the attack area and the wounded were evacuated.
Stating that MINUSMA strongly condemns this attack, which may constitute a war crime under international law, Salgado pointed out that terrorist groups and hand-made explosives are frequently used to undermine the mission’s operations and prevent a return to peace and stability.
