It is known that dark circles can be the result of aging, genetics, unhealthy habits, allergies, and diseases. The success of the methods we try to “get rid of” depends on the reason for their occurrence.
Over time, i.e. aging, our skin naturally loses collagen and becomes thinner. Regardless of what kind of skin we have and what good skin care habits we follow, the veins around the eyes will begin to show through the thinned skin.
Exposure to the sun accelerates the process of collagen breakdown, so one of the best means of combating dark circles is the disciplined and consistent use of sunscreen from an early age. Wearing sunglasses also helps.
Even the best habits, however, cannot change our genes. Genetics is the first determinant of what kind of skin we will have and how we will look as we age. If we have inherited a lighter complexion or thinner skin, the blood that accumulates in the capillaries under the eyes will simply show up more and cause the effect of dark circles. However, in spite of all that, you can also get rid of dark circles naturally – and the minimum time of therapy with any of these methods – is daily from four to six weeks.
1. Cold compresses or compresses
In the morning and in the evening, keep cold compresses on your eyes for ten minutes. You can also keep a light mask, compresses or cotton swabs in the refrigerator. It is important that everything is clean and sterile before application, in order not to provoke an infection. Water and some neutral soap should be part of mandatory skin care under the eyes.
2. Cucumber cools and hydrates
It’s true: Cucumber has brightening, refreshing and circulatory properties. Cut the fresh cucumber into thick slices and put it in the fridge for 30 minutes. Keep them on your eyes for 10 minutes twice a day. After that, rinse the area around the eyes with warm water.
3. Cucumber juice with lemon juice
Place the cut cucumber rings in squeezed lemon juice and also keep in the refrigerator for half an hour. Apply to the dark circles with a cotton ball, but make sure that the contents do not drip into your eye. Keep on the skin for 15 minutes, then rinse with warm water.
4. Rose water
Not only does it smell fantastic, but it can soothe and rejuvenate the skin around the eyes. Like cucumber, it has a mild composition, so it can also act as a whitening toner. Soak makeup remover pads in rose water for a few minutes, then leave them on closed lids. Keep them like this for about 15 minutes twice a day.
5. Tomato slices reduce dark circles
Tomatoes are high in lycopene, a substance that is great for our cardiovascular health, vision and skin. Lycopene can help keep the skin softer and more elastic and reduce the appearance of dark circles under the eyes.
Mix tomato slices with lemon juice and apply on the dark circles. Leave the solution on for 10 minutes, then rinse with warm water, twice a day. You can also add mint leaves.
