#1 Study the machines carefully
In Horizon, knowing your enemy is the BA-BA of survival. As soon as you encounter a new machine, remember to scan it with your focus to find out its strengths and weaknesses.. This will allow you to approach the fight with a maximum of preparation, avoiding you in passing a long and tedious battle where you inflict very little or no damage to your opponent. Do not hesitate either to mark the weak points of the machine with your focus, this will help you to better spot them in the heat of the moment.
#2 Choose your combat arsenal carefully
In Horizon Forbidden West, you will have the opportunity to get your hands on a whole bunch ofdifferent weapons : bows, pike throwers, slingshots, shredders, cable throwers, potions, and more. Don’t be afraid to try them all out to find the ones that work best for you and are the most comfortable with in combat.. However, be sure to make sure you have the most varied arsenal possible in terms of attacks (damage, tearing, fire, freeze, corruption, etc.) in order to be able to face any type of situation at any time.
#3 Always stay on the move
Well, knowing your enemy and having a good arsenal is good, but it’s not enough. Especially against the machines which are all extremely fast and violent. When you engage in a fight, it is therefore imperative that you stay constantly on the move: run, jump and slide while keeping an eye on your opponent.. Also, don’t hesitate to use Aloy’s new equipment, such as the attractor and the Ailegide, in order to gain height quickly and get away by air when necessary.
#4 Explore your surroundings
The Forbidden West is full of collectables, like the census drones, but also resources to recover everywhere. By going to your different destinations, remember to collect as many as possible in order to always have enough to craft new equipment. Focus in particular on the branches, which will be used to make arrows, but also on the medicinal herbs, which can help you out if you don’t have time to drink healing potions in combat. Don’t forget also to search the corpses of your victims (machines and humans), which are also full of interesting resources.
#5 Choose your skills wisely
Unlike its predecessor, Horizon Forbidden West comes with a particularly elaborate skill system that lets you choose your strengths from six different branches (Warrior, Trapper, Hunter, Survivor, Infiltrator, and Machine Leader). Take the time to study each of them in order to identify the skills that interest you the most and that best adapt to the way you play.. This will make your job much easier and prevent you from wasting your points on perks that won’t be of any use to you.
