After trying their luck in Ecuador, Luis José Castillo Rodríguez, 22, and his brother-in-law, Jesús Eduardo Yánez Gutiérrez, 28, decided to return as walkers to their homes in the city of Puerto La Cruz, Anzoátegui state, but their Plans were cut short early this Wednesday, September 21, on the Los Llanos highway.
As it was known, unofficially, at one point on the road, taking advantage of the fact that a truck that was heading to the center of the country stopped, they boarded it, without the driver realizing it.
At a time when the car was traveling along Troncal Cinco, at the height of Recta de Ayarí, at the entrance to the La Azulita sector, jurisdiction of the Fernández Feo municipality, some branches of some trees that are on one side of the road bordered the upper part of the cargo vehicle, hitting Luis José with force.
Due to the impact, he fell from the moving vehicle, falling against the pavement with such violence that he lost his life instantly. At that moment, Jesús Eduardo yelled at the driver to stop. However, this was not the case.
Suddenly, he was also hit by a branch, falling into a green area, which saved his life. It was approximately 2:00 in the morning.
Some time later, a Civil Protection commission from the aforementioned municipality, in a unit of the jurisdiction’s ambulance system, went to the site. After confirming the death of Luis José Castillo Rodríguez, they provided the first medical attention to Yánez Gutiérrez, with the aim of stabilizing him.
He was immediately transferred to El Piñal Hospital. It transpired that in the first care center in the south of Táchira, he was diagnosed with traumatic brain injury and closed chest trauma. Afterwards, he was sent to the Central Hospital of the Tachiren capital.
Officials of the Land Traffic Service of the Bolivarian National Police -PNB- of the El Piñal station were in charge of preparing the respective report. As for the car involved in the road accident, it was known that it would have fled.
