The Government of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (CABA) reported in early September that the price of subway and meter would increase during September. The same will begin to take effect from next Friday, September 23, when the rates of both transports will increase by about one 40% after the agreement reached during a public hearing.
In this way, the subway will go from $30 to $42 while the Premetro will reach $15. In this way, the new rate table for transportation in the City of Buenos Aires will come into effect. From the Buenos Aires government they maintain that it is carried out “with the aim of continuing to guarantee the maintenance and proper functioning of the service, and in line with the rate update implemented by the national government for the rest of the AMBA public transport.
This increase responds to the variation of the technical rate, which reflects that the cost of operating the service grew by 159% since its last update. Since then, only 8% of this total has been covered, which represents 14% of the total costs of the service, according to Subterráneos de Buenos Aires (sbase) and spread Télam.
Although there was an increase in the subway and Premetro for many people, retirees, pensioners, people with disabilities, transplanted people and primary and secondary students they will continue to travel for free. In addition, the social rate and frequent passenger discounts will continue to apply, a practice that CABA implemented for workers in the area.
It should be noted that the discount of the Network Up will also continue running and together with frequent passengers, they contemplate discounts of 20%, 30% and up to 40% exceeding 40 monthly trips. The beneficiaries of social plans granted by the Buenos Aires Government, in any of its programs, will not pay for the service either.
