The figures for February have just fallen: the Xbox Series has overtaken the sales of the PlayStation 5. The news was announced by theISFE (Interactive Software Federation of Europe), which monitors market developments on our continent. If the precise figures have not been disclosed, the organization confirms the victory of Microsoft’s baby.
The Xbox Series really more popular than the PS5?
However, this victory does not seem due to the respective catalog of consoles or their intrinsic qualities. Indeed, still according to ISFE, the Xbox Series S have simply benefited from a major restocking. The shortages of consoles (and computer components) still persist, and there have been more Microsoft shipments delivered than Sony shipments. Before proclaiming the Xbox Series winner of its generation, we will therefore have to wait for the trend to be confirmed… In addition, ISFE says console sales are down 32% since Januaryand 44% since February 2021. A drop in form that does not really affect the Switch: the Nintendo platform is comfortably at the top of the podium.
Other particularities of the data provided by the ISFE make it possible to mitigate the news. To start, UK and German console sales not included. If these big markets were taken into account, Sony could possibly overtake Microsoft. Many small countries are also excluded from the statistics. We will therefore have to wait to receive the official figures from the manufacturers to find out who best braves the shortages… and who appeals the most to gamers.
The ISFE also provided some numbers on the launch of Elden Ring. As you can imagine, it’s a record start: FromSoftware signs the best start for a new license in Europe since 2016.
