“Be very careful and do not panic.” This was the message that Professor Kristaq Bërxholi gave to Dita Jonë regarding the confirmation of the first case of bird flu by the Ministry of Agriculture.
Bërxholi stated that persons dealing with poultry should be careful and notify the authorities if they spot cases of sick birds. He also urged parents not to allow children to play with birds as they are more susceptible to viruses.
According to him, the consumption of poultry and their products is not dangerous, if they are cooked well.
“There is no need to panic. The economic damage is not small when this virus enters the facilities. This virus infects up to 80% of birds. People should not be afraid, as it does not affect people so far, then let it pass from person to person. People need to be careful especially those who deal with birds. If they see dead birds they should contact the veterinary service authorities. We must not allow children to play with ducks, geese or turkeys. Do not panic, but the veterinary service is engaged to the maximum level. This was expected as Europe has had this type of virus for years. The important thing is that they entered the complexes, which means that they have reduced the level of surveillance. The bird must be well prepared. Uncooked meat should not be kept together with the prepared dish. Even for eggs there is a hesitation. We must keep in mind that even if the virus spreads to the eggs they do not pose a risk. They must be well cooked“, Said Bërxholi.
