Ukrainian military sources say about 15,000 Russian soldiers have been killed so far, but that figure includes wounded.
Meanwhile, American Intelligence suggests that half of that number may have died.
The Russian authorities themselves have released the death toll on March 2, saying 498 soldiers had died, but have not released any information on the number of soldiers killed in Ukraine since then.
The BBC reports that the list of 557 soldiers killed during the war in Ukraine has already been confirmed by Russian officials.
The list includes a major general, seven colonels, a first-class naval captain, nine lieutenant colonels, 20 majors and 70 new officers, and the rest are non-commissioned officers or private.
