Durres– For almost 3 days, a large number of chickens that died from bird flu have remained in the ‘open sky’, becoming a serious risk to the health of the population, but also environmental pollution. After the ‘ping-pong’ of responsibilities between institutions, the solution has been found, a space where dead chickens will be buried. In a statement to the media in the late hours, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Ermira Gjeci said that all the birds were buried, but not in Durrës, refusing to make transparency over the country. After leaving questions to the public, not doing transparency, and in response to media insistence, the Ministry published some footage of the chickens being buried overnight. Minutes later, the Ministry of Agriculture reacted again, stating that the chickens had been buried in Shijak.
Report tv contacted representatives of the company “AIBA”, which for days kept the dead chickens inside the farm, who said that not all chickens have been buried, as the Deputy Minister said in the statement, but that the process continues and will require days end in conditions when other poultry chickens are currently following and dying.
Earlier today, the Municipality of Durrës refused to bury chickens in its territory, arguing that there is no ground to meet the legal requirements for burying birds with the virus.
The Institute of Food and Veterinary Safety clarified today that the death of chickens did not come only as a result of bird flu. Initially on March 12 there were reports from the companies themselves of mass deaths of their chickens. After this finding, tests were performed and it was confirmed that it was the largino-tracheitis virus. Meanwhile, on March 19, another company, more specifically ‘Aiba’, reported the same problem and based on the analysis, the first case of bird flu in our country was confirmed.
The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Ermira Gjeci, said that measures have been taken to quarantine the farm, but also of a perimeter of 3 kilometers around it, but in the images brought by Report Tv, the observance of this distance has not happened, where the images show that the chickens the villagers live freely at a distance of no more than 500 meters being quite adjacent to the quarantined farm. While within a radius of 10 kilometers from the bird flu farm, all poultry are being monitored by continuous sampling.
The director of the National Veterinary Authority, Tana Kika, in today’s statement underlined that the consumption of poultry products is not dangerous for human health.
So far, the total number of chickens that have died in the last 2 weeks has reached 320 thousand in 2 of the largest poultry farms in Durrës, while Report Tv has learned with sources that the Durrës Prosecutor’s Office has launched investigations against companies operating and institutions state with suspicions that the rules for quarantine have not been respected.
