Further details are leaked to the international media about the ammonia leak at a chemical plant near the town of Sumy, which is reported to have been brought under control by Ukrainian authorities.
Officials say a 50-tonne reserve of poison gas was damaged when the Sumykhimprom facility was hit by Russian bombing and this created a cloud of ammonia.
The cloud affected an area of about 2.5 km, said the governor of the region, Dmytro Zhyvytskyy. He said a worker had been injured. Residents of the nearby town of Novoselytsya were advised to take shelter.
Ammonia is mainly used for fertilization and has corrosive properties. It can cause pain and burning in the airways and eye injuries./tvklan.al
